Yael Bartana
A native of Afula, Israel, Bartana received her BFA from the Bezalel Academy in 1996 and earned an MFA from the New York School of Visual Arts in 1999. From 2000-2001, Bartana participated in the artist-in-residence program in Rijksakademie. She has staged solo exhibitions in numerous countries and received honors including the Anselm Kiefer Prize in 2003 and the Dorothea von Stetten-Kunstpreis in 2005. Bartana’s work generally underscores the relationship between ritual and identity in Israeli society. Bartana lives and works in Tel-Aviv and Amsterdam.
