Friends of Bezalel

For more than 100 years the creative energy of Bezalel graduates and faculty have inspired and shaped Israel’s physical, cultural, and psychic worlds. Even during difficult times, the people of Israel and the supporters of Bezalel recognize the school’s seminal role in the development of the country and the enrichment of its citizens.

Designs and innovations created at the Academy have advanced Israel’s economy, culture and quality of life. From buildings to milk containers, from children’s walkers to the Vespa scooter, from fine art and hand-crafted jewelry to computer disk drives and gas masks: hardly an area of Israeli life has been untouched by Bezalel. The Academy is instrumental in setting the standards and raising the level of aesthetic values, design consciousness and industrial skill in Israel.

Today the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design is home to 1700 gifted students and 410 faculty members. Bezalel offers undergraduate degrees in Fine Arts and Design, and has recently received accreditation to offer Masters Degree programs in Industrial Design and Fine Arts, the latter in conjunction with Hebrew University. Bezalel boasts ten departments and units, situated in the main Jerusalem Campus nestled on the heights of Mount Scopus, and in the Historic Bezalel building that is situated downtown.

The original historic downtown campus houses the School of Architecture and is being restored to serve as a cultural center for the city of Jerusalem.

The Historic Building also houses the Morris Louis Gallery, open to the public for viewing by citizens of Jerusalem and Israel and visitors from around the world. Advanced Studies and Masters programs in Fine Arts take place in a new branch in Tel Aviv, which also provides Bezalel students with gallery space in the country’s vibrant commercial center.

For more than 100 years Bezalel has been a beacon of light and the story of Bezalel is now available in a book that was made possible through the generosity of the Nicole and Raanan Agus Family Foundation, Sivia Loria, and the Israel Discount Bank of New York.
